Five men including a 63-year-old Hussain Soaberedowo were on Thursday remanded to correctional custody for allegedly assaulting a middle-aged woman.
Soaberedowo along with, Abeeb Ayodeji (60years), Musibau Muammed (56years), Okunola Tunde (43years), and Aliu Opeyemi (35years), were docked on five-count charges bordering on defamation of character, assault, breach of public peace, contrary to provisions of the criminal code of Osun state.
The Police prosecutor, Elisa Olusegun, alleged that the defendants conspired among themselves to commit felony, defamation of character, assault, breach of public peace of one Mrs Badmus Rosidat, accusing her of stealing a goat.
He stressed that the offences contradict and are punishable under section 516,373,355,516 and 249 criminal code cap 34 vol.11 laws of Osun State, Nigeria,2002.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
Presiding Chief Magistrate, Dr Olusegun Ayilara, remanded them to correctional custody in Inisha, until they apply for formal bail.
The case was adjourned till February 2026, for further hearing.
