The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun State chapter, has urged Governor Ademola Adeleke to stop dragging Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola into Osun’s local government matter in the state, describing such actions as an attempt to deflect from governance failures.
This is just as the Association slammed Governor Adeleke over what it described as deliberate misinformation on local government funds and tenure issues, insisting that the Federal Government is not withholding council allocations.
ALGON in a statement signed by its Chairman, Abiodun Idowu, described the frequent attack on Oyetola by the Adeleke led administration as an attempt to deflect from governance failures.
According to him, the Federal Government has been faithful in releasing local government allocations regularly and promptly into the respective councils’ accounts. At no point has the Federal Government withheld council funds,” Abiodun stated.
“It is unfortunate that the Osun State Government continues to mislead the public on local government allocations. All funds due to our councils have been released up to date. The delay in executing projects approved in our appropriation bills lies squarely with Governor Ademola Adeleke.
“The Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy is focused on repositioning Nigeria’s maritime sector and has no reason to interfere in Osun local government affairs.
AFRESH247 recalled that Adeleke, had demanded the immediate release of over ₦130 billion in statutory allocations allegedly withheld from the state’s local governments.
He warned that the continued seizure of the allocation is crippling grassroots governance and worsening hardship for workers and residents across the state.
