The Central Bank of Nigeria has classified the use of money bouquets as a form of naira abuse, thereby bans the use of it ahead Valentine’s Day celebrations.
The use of “money bouquets” was added to the existing offenses of naira such as spraying, squeezing and the vandalization of the National Currency.
According to the CBN Act, anyone found guilty of tampering with the naira faces a minimum of six months’ imprisonment or a fine of at least ₦50,000, or both.
The apex bank has urged Nigerians to handle the currency with care and report violations to the appropriate authorities, as enforcement agencies intensify nationwide efforts to clamp down on offenders.
