Osun state Governor, Ademola Adeleke has approved a reduction in the official working hours for public servants in observance of the Ramadan and Lent fasting periods.
The approval which was announced on Wednesday is aimed at supporting the state workforce throughout the fasting season. According to the Governor, the revised schedule to take effect as from Thursday February 19,2026.
A directive issued by the Office of the Head of Service, signed by Elder Ayanleye Aina, titled “Closure of Work During Ramadan and Lent Fasting Periods” which stated that public servants are to close work at 2:00 p.m. from Mondays to Thursdays and at 1:00 p.m. on Fridays throughout the fasting period.
He said, “As part of the welfare packages of the State Government for it’s workforce, the Executive Governor, His Excellency, Sen.(Dr.) Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, has graciously approved that Public Servants should close work by 2pm from Mondays to Thursdays, and 1pm on Fridays, during the ongoing Ramadan and Lent seasons only.”
The directive was described as part of the government’s welfare for workers, noting that that it is to provide employees with adequate time for prayers.
He added that, “This gesture of the Governor is to enable Public Servants have sufficient time to pray for the existing peace and tranquility in the State to continue unhindered, moreso that gubernatorial election is holding in the State this year.”
However, the directive exempts workers engaged in essential services, especially medical personnel, due to the critical and life-saving nature of their duties.
The circular further directed political office holders, accounting officers of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), heads of non-ministerial agencies, local government authorities, and local council development authorities to ensure full compliance and wide dissemination of the directive among staff.
