Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader, was killed on Saturday morning following what has been described as one of the ambitious military strikes on Iranian targets in decades, carried out by the United States and Israel.
Iranian media outlets also revealed members of the Khamenei’s family that were killed in the strike which includes his daughter, grandchild, son-in-law and daughter-in-law.
The Israel Defense Force,IDF, was said to have confirmed that several senior Iranian officials were also eliminated during the operation. Among those reportedly killed were Ali Shamkhani, described as a top security adviser to Khamenei, and General Mohammad Pakpour, identified as a senior commander within Iran’s Revolutionary Guards.
The IDF reportedly stated that its fighter jets targeted key figures within Iran’s defense leadership as part of the broader operation.
Following the reported incident, Iranian cleric Ayatollah Arafa was said to have been appointed as a jurist member of an interim leadership council tasked with carrying out the duties of the Supreme Leader.
