The Osun State Government has appointed Prince Tajudeen Olanrewaju as the new Akire of Ikire, following the death of the former Akire, Oba Olatunde, Lambelaye II who passed away on February 27,2026.
A statement issued by the Commissioner for information and Public Enlightenment revealed that the decision was reached during the State Executive Council meeting held on Friday in Osogbo, chaired by Governor Adeleke.
The government stated that the council reviewed a detailed report from the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs before approving the recommendation, following the existing laws and the agreed upon terms of settlement earlier agreed upon by the five ruling houses.
The statement noted that the Akire stool crisis began in 2021 after 2014 Supreme Court ruling was enforced. Which affirmed that the Lambeloye Ruling House that produced Oba Olatunde Falabi wasn’t legally entitled to the stool at the time the vacancy arose in 1987.
It noted that the fallout from the crisis led the Osun State Government and the five ruling houses in Ikire to amend the 1958 Akire Chieftaincy Declaration.
The amendment allowed the Aketula Ruling House to produce the next Akire of Ikire when the stool became vacant.
