A 50-year-old man, Ojetola Femi, was on Wednesday arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo for allegedly defrauding a poultry farmer of N1.545 million and stealing 153 broiler chicks.
Ojetola was dragged to court by the Nigeria Police on a three-count charge bordering on obtaining money under false pretence and stealing, contrary to provisions of the Criminal Code of Osun State.
The Police prosecutor, Oluokun Babatunde, alleged that the defendant fraudulently obtained the sum of N1,545,000 from one Saheed Jimoh under the pretence that he would rear 153 broiler chicks for him, knowing the claim to be false.
He stressed that the offence contradicts and punishable under Section 419 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. II, Laws of Osun State, Nigeria, 2002.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
Presiding Chief Magistrate, Muibat Olatunji, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
She added that one of the sureties must present a valid means of identification and be a blood relative of the defendant.
The case was adjourned till February 19, 2026, for further hearing.
