There was tension in parts of Osun State on Tuesday after unconfirmed reports that suspected bandits were seen around Ila Orangun and nearby areas. The news caused some parents to pull their children out of school.
Locals from surrounding towns like Iree, Eripa, Iragbiji, Ikirun, Obaagun, Ada and other nearby communities said the development sparked fear and anxiety, with parents hurrying to schools to get their kids.
A resident of Iree told journalists that fear spread quickly after a distress message came in from Ila Orangun.
“We got a report from Ila Orangun that bandits were in the vicinity. Parents immediately rushed to schools to take their children home,” the resident said.
A resident of Eripa also noted that school activities were already affected in neighboring towns, saying “Many people have gone to pick their children from school. There’s a lot of tension here right now.”
At the time of filing this report, security agencies and the Osun State Government had not confirmed any bandit attack or presence in the areas mentioned.
