The Osun State Police Command has arrested two officers of the Nigeria Customs Service following a fatal shooting incident that occurred on Sunday at Dada Estate area in Osogbo.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the suspects were identified as Kolawole Suuti and Danjuma Samuel.
He stressed that the suspects were reportedly involved in a high-speed chase of suspected foreign-used vehicles when the incident took place, noting that during the pursuit, the driver of an ash-colored Toyota Corolla was shot and later confirmed dead by medical doctors at the Osun State University Teaching Hospital.
He confirmed that several items were recovered from the scene, including a Beretta pistol, eleven rounds of 9mm live ammunition, and one expanded shell, two vehicles, a white Toyota Corolla with Lagos registration and the ash-colored Toyota Corolla with Texas registration, were also recovered.
He said, “The suspects, identified as Kolawole Suuti “M” and Danjuma Samuel “M”, were reportedly chasing suspected tokunbo (foreign-used) vehicles when the incident occurred. Following the report, police operatives swiftly responded and apprehended the two officers.
“Meanwhile, the driver of the said ash colour Toyota corolla one of the vehicle been chased by the customs was shoot and confirmed dead by a medical doctor in Osun state university teaching hospital and his corps has been deposited at the morgue, although the name of the victim (deceased) is yet unknown.
“During the operation, the following items were recovered from the scene of incident
1. One Beretta pistol with breech number 125024
2. Eleven (11) rounds of 9mm live ammunition; 3. One expanded shell of 9mm; 4. One white Toyota Corolla with registration number AAA 400 GQ (Lagos); 5. One ash Toyota Corolla with registration number GFQ 0982 (Texas)”
He however, disclosed that the suspects are currently in police custody, stressing that the Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, CP Ibrahim Gotan, mnips has ordered a thorough investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
