Afrobeats star Davido has temporarily stepped away from music to focus on campaigning for his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
The Grammy-nominated singer announced the move on Tuesday in Ede during the launch of the Imole Youth Campaign Mobilisation Team, which he heads. He said he would dedicate the next two months to grassroots mobilisation for the governor’s re-election bid.
Speaking at the event, Davido said the decision was driven by both family ties and the governor’s performance in office.
According to him, “I have put my music career on hold for two months to work for my uncle, not just because he is family but because he is doing well and there is still work to be done,” he told committee members. “Our job is to use our influence to help him win. This youth committee is key because it connects directly with young voters.”
Davido charged the team to carry out door-to-door outreach across all local government areas in Osun, saying “Go into communities, highlight what the governor has achieved, and explain his plans for the next term. Make sure people understand his programmes.”
The Imole Youth Campaign Mobilisation Team includes Chairman David Adeleke, Vice Chairman Adeshina Kayode Olododo and Secretary Hon. Gbenga Idowu
Other members represent Osun’s federal constituencies: Hon. Mutiu Oladimeji for Osogbo, Hon. Tomiwa Babalola for Ife, Hon. Mayowa Oloso for Ijesha South, Hon.
