A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress(APC) in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has called on President Bola Tinubu to investigate the recurring collapse of the national grid, describing the current power crisis as unbearable for Nigerians.
Addressing journalists during an interview in Osogbo on Sunday, he expressed deep concern over the worsening electricity supply, which he noted has coincided with an intense nationwide heatwave.
He stated that the lack of power for cooling has caused significant distress for households, many of which cannot access even three hours of electricity daily.
“It is a terrible situation across Nigeria, with persistent and worsening epileptic power supply. Many small-scale businesses and large industrial players are affected, while most homes cannot boast of even three hours of electricity supply daily for domestic use,” he said.
Oyintiloye thereby urged the President to constitute a panel to determine if the persistent failures in the power sector despite significant financial allocations. He noted that the situation represents a major setback to the Federal Government’s power sector reforms and must be addressed before it becomes what he calls a national embarrassment.
He also called on the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, to take urgent remedial steps, warning that the ongoing blackouts have already triggered peaceful protests across the country and appealed for immediate presidential intervention to prevent the situation from escalating into violence.
According to him, “This epileptic power supply has led to a series of peaceful protests nationwide. I appeal for the President’s intervention before these protests turn violent. The situation must be quickly addressed before it becomes a national embarrassment.”
